Lipomyoma of the uterus

Abstract
|

|
Previously, we have reported a case of lipomyoma of the uterus in view of rarity of its kind in the literature and interesting aspects of histogenesis of the fat tissue.
Recently we have experienced additional two cases of similar tumors. The first case was 49 year old house wife who had complained of lower abdominal mass. At the time of operation, a large tumor mass was lobulated in 3 portion, 28 X 15 X 8, 10 x 8 x 3, 7 x 7 X 3cm respectively, and originated from the left upper cervical myome trium pedunculating at parametrium, and it occupied entire pelvic cavity.
The tumor consists of a mixture of mature adipose tissue in liquefacted and hyalinized myoma. The adipose tissue distributed throughout the tumor ranging from 5 to 10 per cent of the tumor tissue. The two small lobulated portions of the mass showed marked proliferation of blood vessels mimiking an angioma, and at the periphery of each small vessels large amount of adipose tissue was noted.
The second case was 56 year old house wife who had complained of lower abdominal mass. At the time of operation, the uterus was enlarged to about 18 weeks gestation. Cut surface showed a well circumscribed yellow fatty mass measuring 11cm in diameter. The tumor consisted of a mixture of mature adipose tissue in hyalinized leiomyoma. The adipose tissue distributed throughout the tumor ranging from 80 to 90 per cent of tumor mass.
There was no demonstrable fat tissue in surrounding normal myometrium. The relation of adipose tissue to smooth muscle, fibrous stroma, blood vessels, parametrium, degeneration or active proliferation of tumor elements was studied to determine the possible origin of adipose tissue but no definite relation could be found.
